Wet at Snetterton!

Post by Sean Horwood »

I have to comment on the 4 hour relay which took place on Sunday.

My wife Tracey (of Tracey's Lightweights fame) 'volunteered' to manage a team of Morgans for the 4 hour relay at Snetterton. This made the perfect end to the season for my fellow teamates - Phil Thomas, Simon Rothon, Peter Cole and Peter Rafter (getting value for money from his re-built Roadster!) - all of whom were looking forward to 'mixing it' with other makes on a fast and wide circuit. Morgan honour was also upheld by the Richard Thorne team (Guten Morgans) comprising Richard, Simon Orebi Gann, Tony Lees, Roger Whiteside and managed by Peter Twinam.

The day started well, with a reasonably dry track for qualifying and a forecast of no rain until 5pm. Tracey's Lightweights aquitted themselves well during qualifying and were set for a non-stressful charge around the track, racing nobody in particular, just maintaining a steady lap time - in fact the most stressed person was Tracey, who was worrying about timing drivers and showing the pitboard.

During the relay itself we became a team in the true sense of the word. Pit board management and timing was brilliantly supported by Jeanette Thomas and Sandy Rothon, and valuable information flowed to the drivers throughout the 4 hours.

The drivers themselves produced a marvelous display of consistant driving in very changeable conditions, with driving rain by the end of the first hour through to the end of the second. This combined with oil laid down on two key bends (where else!!) tested both skills and concentration levels to the maximum.

Traceys Lightweights all brought their cars home in one piece, with few mishaps and plenty to smile about at the end of the relay.

My sincere thanks to everybody in the team for what has been one of the most memorable experiences I have had to date. =D>

Same thing next year?! - perhaps we'll have figured out the handcap system by then

I think I'm going mad... I am sure I was at Donington boating lake on Sunday. If I was at Snett then thanks very much for your company and didn't we do well

Sincere apologies to all, of course I meant Tony Rivers (actually more appropriate given the weather), I think the adrenaline must have finally drained out while I was writing up the event!
