FIA GT3 Championship

Post by Bob Bull »

Morgan could not duplicate their Silverstone success in Italy over the weekend, with both cars having trouble (unspecified) in race one, which caused one retirement and an 18th place at 9 laps. In race 2 the Martin/Lesouddier car came home second after finding that from a front row start, their opponents could brake much later in to the first corner losing the car several places. The car then performed very well and battled back to second just 0.979 secs.shy of the leader at the finish. The cars are clearly very competetive and look like serious contenders for the Championship.

08/05/2009 Charles Morgan Interview with the BBC
Charles Morgan of the Morgan Motor Company and Grandson of founder HFS Morgan spoke to the BBC immediately after the first race of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship season when Dimitri Enjalbert and Johan-Boris Scheier took the first international race win for Morgan since 1962.

"We've been trying to do this for a bit of a time, the team have been working for a year and a half and we did start ourselves with a works team. We've now got a Frenchman Jean-Pierre Jabouille running the outfit, who is an ex Formula One driver and he is bringing a huge amount of experience to the team. I think we've proved today that we're a serious contender. The car that came in 6th [in race one] is also a Morgan and he started from the back of the field after having spun. So it's just a fantastic day for Morgan. Because we've launched a new car, the Aero Super Sport, and this car is essentially a version of that- it has the same chassis and exactly the same suspension - it just goes to show even small people can bring it home to Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin and everybody else."
