Donnington

Post by JERRY KNIGHT »

I am led to believe that a condition of the temporary licence granted to Donnington is that the area between the approach to mcleans and the exit of coppice is under permanent yellow flag because it is still deemed dangerous !

Why is it any more dangerous now than before?

Because they have dug a tunnel underneath the track (for the new glitzy F1 pit complex) and the run-off areas either side have been severely reduced as a consequence.

Andy,
What am I missing here? Surely it is all public knowledge and we are free to discuss it in open forum?

I started it here Andy purely because it concerns both Thoroughbreds and Morgans and one does not necessarily have access to the others forum

With this weekend's Donington meeting being switched to Silverstone, and many others expected to follow suit it would appear that Donny's claim that they would hold a full season's racing despite the improvements is proving a little premature.
It looks more and more like the project is in trouble financially and the future of the British GP is looking rocky.
While losing the race would be a tradgedy, do we also face the loss of the circuit if things do not improve? That would be a double blow!
Should the worst happen, what can the motor sport community do to ensure we don't lose the oldest World Championship race of them all?
Perhaps we should launch a petition on the Downing Street Web Site demanding action, there must ba a lot of votes at stake here.
While not everyone is overly concerned about the Grand Prix, I do believe that without it motor sport in this country would suffer enormously in the long and short term.

Mobilise your forces and be prepared to march on London and picket FOM offices. To the barricades Mes amis!!!

Hi Bob,

I presume you are referring to the 'Blast in the Park' meeting organised by MotorSport Vision? Apparently Jonathan Palmer is livid as they did not even tell him. It was the MSA who told him they did not have a valid license.

All very sad for such a fantastic circuit.

Cheers

Mark

Whilst I cant help but feel that we ( Gt Britain )lost our formula 1 event some years ago I have always been led to believe that the current people only lease Donnington. Does that not mean if the worst happens somebody else just takes over the lease.
On a totally different note I wonder what Johnathan Palmer will do with the £11 million that was planned for the Snetterton refurb that has been shelved ?

Jack,
I don't know if it is the same people (not) running Donington and the FIA, but they all suffer from the same problem! Lack of brain.
I see that the 'diffuser issue' has been settled in favour of the teams who have managed to circumvent the intentions of the latest rule changes, so Ol' Jens keeps his points and the losers will be rushing out their own versions asap. It seems that the idea of restricting the size of the diffuser, failed to stop clever people building 'bodywork' across the bottom of the thing to effectively increase the size and efficiency of the device, all within the rules. Lack of joined up thinking? The idea was to slow cars down and reduce costs, but it is now going to take a lot of money for the majority of teams to develop new parts, to make them go faster! Brilliant!!
Never mind there is always the McLaren ploy - if at first you don't succeed, cheat. Oh No we didn't! Oh yes you did! Oh no we .......!

Still it will be of little interest to us Europeans before very long, as Formula 1 looks like replacing Camel Racing, most races now being held in places we have never heard of outside school geography lessons, and all run on identical circuits surrounded by sand and date palms, with barely a spectator in sight!! Abu Dhabi? I thought he played for Chelsea!

I my idea is that the BRDC should get together with their French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Portugese, Belgian and Italian counterparts and star afresh with a European Championship and forget all about 'Bernies World of Wonder', using all of the classic circuits and dumping the corporate sponsors. Back to the beginning in other words.
Alternatively up grading the Morgan Challenge to world class status. Jack Bellinger Superstar!!

What was that you said about a pantomime?

Noel Bob.
