It may be a period colour, but the car was black in the 1970s and green in the 1960s . It only became red in the late 1970s after Aubrey Brocklebank had it catch fire on him at Silverstone (must have been the shock of me passing him!) . Bill Fink bought it from Aubrey and kept it red thrugh its period in the USA , and Simon has remained true to that colour . Very nice car, great history and beautiful restoration by Brett at BHM.

What colour was it before it was black in the 1970s?
I have to agree with Jack, red is definitely the best colour for a Morgan.

Fantastic looking car, a credit to Brets workmanship.
I always thought there where 4 SLR's, 3 on a morgan chassis' and one on a TR chassis or am I getting confused ?

This car is indeed a credit to Brett and BHM (they have now done 2 of the 4 SLRs !) - replicar anyone ?
There are 4 original SLRs - one on a Triumph TR4 chassis and 3 on Morgan chassis.
No: 1 is the TR4 car and was built for Neil dangerfield a well known TR racer of the time in 1963/64, won the last race held at Goodwood before it closed in 1966. Still about and seen at Goodwood Revival for the last few years.
No: 2 is the car featured in this thread built for Gordon Spice who wrote it off first time out at Goodwood in 1964.
No: 3 is the car built for Pip Arnold well known Morgan race ace from the 60s (originally XRX 1 according to Chris Lawrence). Now owned by Adrian van der Kroft.
No: 4 is Chris Lawrence's own car, passed on to Edgar Wallace & Tony Howard and now owned by Keith Ahlers.

Great pictures Andy of Adrian and Keith in their SLRs at the Goodwood Revival in 2006.
They were competing in the Fordwater Trophy which that year was for Endurance Racing Sports and GT cars of a type that raced between 1960 and the circuits demise in 1966. Hence the pretty little Austin Healey Speedwell Sprite which was also surprisingly quick!
In addition the TR4 based SLR was also competing.Simons car was still in the States or we would have had the full set!
It was driven by Tony Griffin who was also listed as the Entrant - I don't know whether he is also the current owner. But I do know the TR4 based SLR is shorter in the chassis length which makes for a shorter nose and to many eyes a more aesthetically pleasing shape.
However in the form I saw it in at Goodwood it had at some time received over large rear arches to clear huge 'Carlos Fandango' rear wheels and racing rubber which somewhat spoiled the looks.
A shame really as it otherwise looked good in its dark metallic blue livery.
