Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
Hello Kevin,
I note your post about the 1961 +4 SS, although the advert title did not refer to it as such. I have followed the +4 model over the years and have a dedicated file for SS’s comprising those which I have either actually seen or those advertised online.
I last saw this particular car advertised on Car and Classic on 18th April 2021 as “1962 Morgan Supersports RHD #6/100 For Sale”. From the photos at the time the car was exactly as it is now displayed. The then description was quite similar to that given now with the car’s location the same as well as the status of the seller.
A few observations :-
- identified as SS number 6, Ken Hill’s book as SS 9.
- clearly a RHD and not as advertised LHD.
- back in 2021, engine stated as “the original block”.
- wonder if there is a history file ?
- advertised for £96,000 (pounds) in 2021, now for €75,000 (euros)……interesting !!
I take it you are still looking ?

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
Hi Kevin and Eddie,
Well spotted!
I remember this car being advertised back in 2021 too. Although there weren't so many photos of it then.
As you say Eddie the price reduction is 'interesting...' but I think reflects the current downturn in prices for fifties and sixties sports cars.
I don't think the colour scheme will help sell it in this country irrespective of price...!
Seasons greetings to all.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
Morning Kevin,
I thought you had found a Plus 4 last year...?!
What are you looking for - other than a Super Sports?!
I am going to sell my ex: John Looker 1955 Plus 4 as I have bought something else!
Machiel Kalf included a write up about it in an Historic Register article in Miscellany last year but if interested I'm happy to give you chapter and verse!
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Kevin,
Not a Super Sports and not a 'bustle back' but the ex: John Looker Goodwood, Silverstone and International Oulton Park (amongst many others) 1955 Plus 4 OWP 38 that he raced in period...!
Definitely not a trailer queen but up and running with bags of patina!
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark
Great photo
Just read your letter to Machiel in the February 2024 issue of Miscellany.
Nice to own a car with period competition history.

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
Hi Kevin,
If you're interested I can send you some photos of how she is now.
I have recommissioned her over the last couple of years and she certainly looks (and goes!) a lot better than when I bought her.
Just PM me with your email address and I will send them to you.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
By the way Kevin...
Have you seen the 1963 Plus 4 two seater that Classicwise, near Newark in Nottinghamshire have for sale?
It's been available for sale for a long time and they are asking £23,950 for it.
If interested I know it's back story... and have even driven it!
Cheers,
Mark

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
Thanks Mark
If that's 559FYN then its been for sale for around the past 4 years.
Originally looking for £34k.
Chassis has been attacked where the exhaust exits and it appeared to have a kink in the OS bulkhead.
Jim Lowry brought it back from the USA.
Might be worth reconsidering.
Cheers

Re: 1961 Supersports for sale
That's the one!
I drove it when Jim first repatriated it back to the UK from the States.
I was racing my Plus 4 at Silverstone and Jim wanted me to try it to see what I thought...
It drove very well and was a nice original car in as much as I was told it had been rebuilt by the factory some years previously as well as being in long term ownership.
I believe it has since had an engine rebuild by TR Enterprises.
Depending on how much of a rebuild that will have been an expensive job.
Cheers,
Mark
