I expect Simon wants me to remind everyone that he provided some excellent photographic coverage of the last time the Challenge visited the circuit.
Sorry you will not be around to advise on exposure, shutter speeds, white balance and positioning, Simon. You will be greatly missed, BDC perhaps?
Bob – as you and Simon are keen F1 fans, next time I see you I will give you the gossip on Alex Albon as he used to live about a mile away from me (and also from Paul Bryan).
Obviously it is the local air that produces three such talented race drivers.
Bob - you befuddle me with all this talk of exposure, shutter speeds and white balance No wonder your box brownie turns out such great photos!
My only saving grace is that I always take better photos than you if you are not there...
PS to Leigh - Must remember to ask you about Mr Albon ... according to the press, the family seems to have an interesting system for acquiring money, shall we say...

Mary, in asking “hold the pose “ Bob, exponent exceptionelle of the daguerreotype, to write an article as well as practice his dark arts, are you not in danger of creating a major conflict?
I have just revisited the seminal Film of the Boulting Bros “I’m All Right Jack” which tilted at class distinction and the conflict between corrupt, conspiratorial capitalists and the restrictive practices and disruptive influence of the idle, dishonest workers led by Fred Kite, a communist shop steward who idolises the Soviet Union, admirably played by Peter Sellers. It is industrial relations of Britain in 1959 and beyond preserved in amber.
I am not in the least suggesting that Bob is as work -shy and devious as portrayed by those workers in the film. but will his conscious allow him to betray the sacrosanct maxim of division of labour. Will he sleep soundly at night?
ps
I also watched an early silent Western film where the cowboys formed their wagons in circle (a la Clausewitz) to defend themselves against the marauding pesky Injuns. In many scenes the cowboys fired their hand guns repeatedly, i counted over 20 plus rounds from what were ostensibly Six guns!!! Dramatic licence
pps
I wish all at Mallory “safe racing”
Peter, the problem is not related to workers, as much as shirkers. I suspect that MQC turns to yours truly more in desperation than because she admires the beauty of my prose. When viewing events through the lens of a camera much of the actual action on track is missed. I find that much of my report is cobbled together from the results sheet, and by studying my photographic images to see who was close to who, or who was not. Luckily for me the only other people who occasionally attempt to record a version of events for Posterity or Mary as she is otherwise known, is based on a rather limited view of the race when being overtaken. The more times a writer is lapped the more accurate is the resultant script.
Turning to the filums Mr Sellers was a comic genius, and his portrayal of Fred Kite is one I well remember, however, old as I am silent movies were before even my time. The dubious practice of shooting 'redskins' with a self loading six shooter doses strain credulity, as does the sight of 'our hero' nimbly avoiding the combined fire power of a regiment of machine guns as he destroys legions of baddies armed with just a handgun.
Naturally I will provide Mary with a suitable piece of prose. Probably a regurgitated version pf the last one. No one will notice. Sorry you will not disgrace us with your presence on Sunday, maybe Donington?
Tony Hurst and Craig H-S obviously had a little problem somewhere at Mallory, but as everyone dashed home immediately after the race details are scanty. Any eyewitnesses to shed light on what happened? Essential for the reporter to seek out the scandal.
I understand that the two works drivers did come together, but details are scarce, however, it seems the Clerk of the Course wanted words!
Now Jack and Phil must have been very close behind the twosome, and must surely have witnessed the incident.
Let us hope that they will stand up in court to give their views on who-did-what-to-who.
