Did you see the picture of Len Bridge and Chris Spender in the Deep Sanderson? ( Both Lawrencetune employees and Morgan racers.)

Re: Where are they Now?
Re 49 AFK - did anyone find out if this car had racing history from its registration date in Nov '59 to the 10 June 1961 when the FIA Papers showing AFK were issued?A couple of years ago I was able answer an enquiry in the ‘Where Are They Now?’ topic about 49AFK, one of the first +4s to receive the ‘LawrenceTune’ treatment and the car used to homologate those modifications in 1961. Because of my close friendship with the three drivers who principally raced and hill-climbed it in the 1960s, I set out to trace the car. I hit lucky and have now met the current owner (for the last 40 years!) the Rev. ‘Toddy’ Hoare and seen the car several times.
I am intrigued as to why AFK was chosen for the homologation papers?
Roger may have covered this in his article??
cheers

Dear Mark,
Good to hear from you. The reg.number VOC 365, built for Pip Arnold. Job done by Vic Champness, is still in the capable hands of Fiete van der Grinten. Fiete bought the car from Rick Bourne (or was it Brands Hatch Morgans).
Any way the car is still in good order. If you like to know more details, for example: is this car for sale: YES, it is for sale!
Email: fiete@vandergrinten.nl phone; 0031 6 43584297. Good luck, Machiel Kalf.

Re: Where are they Now?
Dear All,
I realise that the thread I am answering goes back to 2014 but if anyone is still interested in PGP 123 I can fill in the years, very comprehensively, from '62 to '70.
I was with W.H. (Bill) Jones when he bought the car from Peter Marten.
I know why the car was painted green and I also now who painted it!!
I also can fill in the blanks of the racing history between '67 and '70 when I raced the car!
I also know how the Chris Lawrence driving gloves came about!
Regards,
Ken Foley

Re: Where are they Now?
Dear Ken,
How fascinating regarding Choc Ices...
I was fortunate to race her again at Le Mans Classic in July and I know her present owner, Simon Gurney, would love to add to her history file.
We also keep in touch with Peter for old times sake. I think it was some time after 1970 that John Macdonald bought PGP 123.
Please do copy me in to any correspondence you have with Machiel as I will give it to Simon who is abroad for a couple of weeks.
My email address is: mark.shears@abcinflatables.co.uk
Look forward to hearing from you Ken,
Cheers,
Mark

Re: Where are they Now?
Good Morning Mark,
So kind of you to get in touch. I have emailed Jim Lowry with my email address k-foley@sky.com who has passed it on to Simon Gurney.
If Simon contacts me I will be only too willing, with Simons agreement, to keep everyone in the loop that's interested.
I have 8mm footage, now on DVD, of a couple of snippets of the car in its original "colours" and motor racing in general of the early 60s.
I have photos of the log book owner, Bill Jones, who, sadly, is no longer with us.
I have race programmes showing entries of the car from '62 '67 '68'69' and 70, not comprehensive however.
Photos of the car competing and some of my competition licences.
I will also be able to fill in, from memory, certain details about the car during the period from '62 to '70.
I would be more than willing to let this all go to be kept and passed on to the owner of the car!!!
Best Regards,
Ken.

Re: Where are they Now?
Regarding Choc Ices,
John Macdonald acquired the car from Gerry Marshal's garage in Finchley, but I couldn't say which year, I am guessing late 70s. I went to have a look at it on his behalf, and of course it had the "obligatory" letter from Chris Lawrence trying to add authenticity to its history, and you had to apply a BS filter on Gerry's patter or you would have believed the car was actually TOK.
It was certainly green then, but it had disc wheels, non-competition stub axles, and had probably been stripped of many of the better parts that had adorned it as a competition car.
My memory isn't what it was but I do remember it was registered under a completely different number (could have been 550 DXN? but really not sure) It took John Mac a long long time , and many tense negotiations to reunite the car with its original number PGP 123.
Just my two pennyworth.
Andy

Hi Andy,
Trust you are keeping well.
That ties in with what John told me.
And then of course 550 DXN went on his Plus 4...
Cheers

Re: Where are they Now?
PGP 123/550DXN
This is a photo of PGP 123/550 DXN at Goodwood in 1962.
This was the colour of the car as bought from Peter Marten.
It is obviously a Le Mans start and the driver running to the car is the then owner Bill Jones.
The car was bought on the 4th March 1962 and the change of ownership registered.
The number was changed from PGP 123 to 550 DXN by the 17th March.
Whilst the car was "Avion Blue" it can be seen the doors were yellow, wheels red, hardtop black with brown stripe!
The car was coach painted green not long after and I will post a photo of it in green.
It had disc wheels till at least 1970 when it was sold to Roger Eccles.
Sorry about the quality but its a still from my 8mm cine film.
Best Regards,
Ken Foley.
