Le Mans Classic 2014
First provisional list of entries has been published and there is an excellent entry of Morgans
see http://test.peter.fr/files/LMC2014_List ... C2%B01.pdf
With more Morgan entries in the pipe line, this could be a record year.
The entry criteria appears looser than ever before so anyone with a +4 or pre war 4-4 stands an excellent chance of getting an entry. It's a shame the organisers don't know their history, c'mon a '54 Super Sports for goodness sake ???

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Hi John - yes I thought a 1954 Plus Four Supersports was a bit strange!
The car we have entered as you know is Choc Ices and really it should be described as a Plus Four Lawrencetune - indeed the first one...
Consequently I think something got lost in translation when we submitted the entry!
But hey - who cares?! We 've got an entry haven't we?!
Cheers
Mark

Well done Mark, must be an unforgettable experience.
My entry for the plus four was rejected in 2012 and didnt even try this year....
24 - 25 May our Dutch FIA series will have a championship round Brands Hatch.... if anyone wants a guest entry for an app K Plus four or 4/4 do let me know.
Best, Jochem

This is a big question Mark! It depends what we all want from LMC.But hey - who cares?! We 've got an entry haven't we?!
Its a personal thing perhaps but for me, I would prefer to see the plus 4s in Plateau 2 with flat rad appearances and flat rad under pinnings as this would be more in keeping with Morgan and Le Mans history. Hopefully in 2016 you will put this right and perhaps Leigh's car will also be on the provisional list .... the cowled cars with their TR engines can then go and play in Plateaus 3 and 4.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really pleased with the Morgan entry so far (more to come???) and wish all the entrants every success. It should be a spectacular Morgan showing.
cheers

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
John - you are absolutely right of course.
I would have thought (and was expecting) Choc Ices to be in plateau trois.
I think it must be the original registration date that prompted them to put her in plateau 2.
But I am not about to complain...!
Do you think we might have to race against TOK in plateau 2 as well ?!
Cheers
Mark

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Hi Mark, it's very unlikely - TOK has been placed in Plateau 3 (57-61) then more lately in Plateau 4 (62-65).
But it doesn't really matter what we think for this event as it's the French's party and they do what they want. e.g. some D Types registered pre '57 are bumped up to Plateau 3 (others stay in 2) ditto AM DB3s and Austin Healeys. Who knows the reasoning?
For us, it's a good job they are a bit light on Morgan history!! The more Morgan entries the better.....and representatives of the marque in 1, 2, 3, and 4 has to be a good thing. Perhaps we might see an SLR at Le Mans one day...now that would be good!
cheers

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Yes it is a French party as you say. I understand there is a (French) HRG registered post war that runs in Plateau 1 - the Pre War race you race in with the Series 1.
Can you imagine Tony Lees getting an entry in his (post war) Series 1 and racing in Plateau 1 ?!!
There's a thought Tony...!
Cheers

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Maybe you could list all the Morgan entries on this forum including the pilotes etc
Then some of us who are considering going will know the details without having to search on line

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Don’t have the list in front of me and it seems to vanish off the web when I look – but I think Roger Whiteside in a Jowett ? Also found the ‘Little Big Mans’ entry list with
Jaime Greene in a +4 and Simon Victor from Germany in a Morgan 3 wheeler !
Not sure 3 wheelers ever raced at LM 24

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Great news - three more Morgans have been accepted. To the above we can now add:-
Plateau 1
Morgan 4-4 (1937) King
Plateau 2
Morgan +4 flat rad (1953) Sebba
Plateau 4
Morgan +4 'TOK 258' (1962) Ahlers
See http://peterauto.peter.fr/files/pdf/lmc ... ges_N2.pdf for the full list.
Still time for more Morgan's to be accepted, this is the result of the 2nd selection committee meeting. There is still another meeting to come.
cheers

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Hi Peter
Thanks for that link to the Hawthorn D type lap of Le Mans. It did not appear much safer after the 'improvements' following the terrible accident that killed 84 during the 1955 race. What an interesting piece of cinematography! We seem to have come a long way since the 1950's! I spectated at Le Mans in 1963 and have never forgotten the experience of the race, and driving round the circuit after they reopened the roads after the practice sessions.
Good luck to all the Morgan entries.
Best regards
Alan

Re: Le Mans Classic 2014
Alan, I was there in 1955 and witnessed the accident from the 'Tribune' in front of which the crash occurred, I could so easily have been amongst the crowd when it happened. I have never been back.
