Donington Renewed

Post by Bob Bull »

A press release from the Masters organisation, has made it clear that Donington is now fully up to scratch with regards to safety measures and that race meetings will not be effected by the recent earthworks. All appropriate licences, permissions are in place and the continuation of racing is assured.
While a great relief for national events, it still leaves the question mark over the Grand Prix.

I gather that it will take about £600,000 to repair the damage done by Donington Ventures in their abortive attempt to show that 'all is well' as they tried to attract money for the ill staged bid for the Grand Prix.
I agree with the sentiments of the bloke from Oxford, that Donington is best left as a 'National' circuit, as turning it into a Formula 1 venue would destroy it's character and ambiance, luxurious pits and vast tarmac paddocks are all well and good, but I prefer the chaotic, crowded and infinitely more intimate atmosphere of the old Donington.
From a purely personal perspective trying to find people at Silverstone is very tiring as there are so many acres to trawl while trying to track down prospective interviewees for Three Counties.

Chris
The photos that you posted are from last summer. Whether or not they represent what is still to put back or not I don't know.
I have seen a similar figure to the £660,000 that Bob Bull mentions being bandied about.
In Civil Engineering terms that is not a particularly large undertaking, assuming all the finance was in place, Planning issues were resolved and a Contractor had been appointed to carry out the work. If any one of those is still to be sorted out it could be some time before actual work starts. Current weather conditions are not conducive to Groundworks also.
My view is that racing this season could still be a distant prospect.
I hope I am wrong.

I understand that Kevin Wheatcroft is going to announce the name of the new management company on Sunday 7th March, they will have a 10 year lease

The latest estimate is £250k to get the circuit into a format which will achieve the MSA licence and then a further £250k over the next 12 months to correct all the spectator areas back to a safe condition

No changes are planned to the layout or the pits, but may be considered in the future

From what I have seen, the 7th March announcement will be at a general Donington Parade day when there will be a number of events on, including classic car and motorbike shows, childrens attractions, an autojumble, discounted entry to the grand prix car museum and a chance to view the track condition. See details at the link below.

While attending the launch of Silverstone's Arena circuit today I was told that it had just been announced that Donington would be re-opening.
No more than that at the moment, but it sounds like good news.

Anyone know more than that. (No smart rrrr's remarks please Tony)
