Oulton Park 8th May

Post by Nick Reed »

Hi, any room for a newbie!

Just wondering if any of you will be 'burning rubber' around Oulton Park on May 8th. I'm planning to go with a small party and am trying (with great difficulty) to get others there in their Morgans. I have put threads on Mogtalk and Talk Morgan, but am gobsmacked at the overall lack of interest....has it always been like this?? Maybe I need to put in the wod 'noggin'

Also planning to go to Aintree in June as it is almost on my doorstep, even tempted to join the Liverpool Motor club and start marshalling to get even closer to the action (was also tempted to join the Aintree Circuit Club just for the cheap VIP tickets to the Historic Grand Prix de Monaco but its only a couple of weeks away...I may join anyway) Talking of the ACC, any of you going to the 55/55 sprint organised by the club on part of the old GP circuit in front of the grandstand, this is on May 16th.

Nice to have found the Morgan 'Sportscar' site.

regards

Nick

Hi Nick, as one who has always been keen on motor racing it has been a constant surprise to me just how uninterested most other people are, even those who have sportscars. But then I suppose there's a big jump from buying a Val Doonican sweater to being a golfer...

There will be quite a few of us at Oulton - both in the Morgan race and the Thoroughbreds Sportscars race. It's an MGCC meeting and the details are posted here as the entries come in.

I'm sure there will be a few spare tickets knocking around too nearer the time, so if you need any, just ask.

Come and see us inthe paddock too.

Nick,
Welcome indeed to the Mad, Mad, World of the Morgan Site, I look forward to many more postings from you, however, let me warn you about some of the dangers that lurk in the shadows of BHP!

Firstly take a look at the item about Silverstone on Saturday, and you will quickly realise that even a simple, straight forward enquiry, can attract some of the less urbane amongst us. In other words ; be prepared to be mocked, derided, belittled and generaly made to feel foolish.
I am sure it is just not me ................................!

Nice to almost meet you,

Bob.

PS: Names to look out for include not only the two who's contributions I refer to, but also several other dodgy characters, Jerry, Mary, Jack, Jim and Leigh prime amongst them. Should you not be equipt with a sense of humour take my advice. Sell the Morgan, change your name and move abroad, but avoid Portugal and New Zealand.

One who knows.
Ace Photograp…… you know!

Thanks for the replies and the tips!! I've already noticed that I must prof red my typin before I submit the post :)

I've never had my car likened to a Val Doonican jumper, you've obviously seen the colour scheme...more of a tank top than a jumper actually  Maybe I should get that TVR Griffith 500 instead!!... nah! I'll just stick the 'loud pipe' on, pull down the baseball cap and press the go pedal.

Any tickets would be gratefully received...I'll pass on the extras to anybody else who I can get to go.

cheers!

Hi Nick,
I notice you come from Southport, the home of Lifes Motors from whom I bought my first Moggie about 15 years ago and have never looked at another model since, (don't tell the wife).
I shall be there at Oulton with my Class D Plus 8. Look towards the back of the paddock and/or grid and come and say hello.

I agree about it being difficult to get other parties enthusiastic about Motor sport - I used to attend a few Norcemog events but they seem mainly interested in cream teas and treasure hunts, with the odd excursion to Tatton Park.

Hi Andy,

My car came from Life's...I don't know what it is about it, but my head was turned last year by an Italian beauty, a Ferrari 328, at a very good price, but when it came down to decision making...I just couldn't do it. But a TVR Griffith 500..............mmmm no, I know I still couldn't do it.

I hope to get to meet everybody around the paddock...but don't want to get in the way of all the tweeking and tuning (or should that be hammering and banging??)

Anyway...good luck to you all, I hope it stays dry but I'm sure some of you would prefer a moist track.

rgds

Nick you have a very strange notion of the average Morgan racer , tweaking and tuning, not a bit All they do is drink tea or beer ,depending on time of day , and tell tall stories all starting "when I".
Its the Jaguar drivers that spend all their time furiously trying to eek out the very last drop of power .

I represent that remark; some of us have been known to drink coffee.
Look forward to meeting you Nick.
