Re: F1 practice
I think its great having the new teams and Timo Glock was only 5.7 secs off pole on a long circuit, within the 107% rule and less than 4 secs slower than the Williams which also run Cosworth

You are a hard hearted man, have you no pity?
I agree, in principle Andy, but for what is supposed to be the top echelon of the sport (sic) I do feel that the whole means of introducing fresh blood could have been better handled. Let's face it 5 seconds a lap slower is a lot and when you have up to six cars on a similar pace it could easily cause a problem. It is not the team's fault, they can hardly be expected to be on 'Ferrari Pace' from day one. The lead-in time should have been longer and they, at least, should have been given much more testing time. The big mistake has been in subjecting completely inexperienced teams to regulations aimed at the established order, to cut costs.Andy Green wrote:I think its great having the new teams
Poor old Chandok will be making his first Grand Prix start in a car finished the day before the race and in which he has done about 4 laps!! It is not fair on him or the other drivers.
All of this was, of course, under Mr Mosely's reign, but we desperately need some less confrontational means of running Formula 1.
Novice drivers in this country run with a big yellow X on their cars, I wonder if the FIA have thought about following the practice in F1?
Regards,
Bob.

Bob, all the best race cars are finished after burning a bit of the midnight oil to get them to the start line in time, and these guys have been racing before they where pottie trained so it's nothing new to them, the interview I watched of Karun Chandock pre qualifying he seemed cool as a cucumber.Bob Bull wrote: Poor old Chandok will be making his first Grand Prix start in a car finished the day before the race and in which he has done about 4 laps!!

Christ that was DULL - back to recording and watching of fwd.
MotoGP it Ain't. As Schumacher said after - Overtaking was impossible (so why bloody bother).

I am sorry you did not find the Grand Prix exciting, however, I found an interesting diversion that kept me fascinated all the way through the race - it is a new game called "SPOT THE SPECTATOR" - It kept me on my toes I can tell you!
Clearly I still have a bit more to learn, because apart from a few distant glimpses of grand stands that may or may not have held people I failed to spot a single one.
When you conside that at Silverstone you would find it hard to find a piece of ground to stand on if you turn up after the start, it makes you wonder if any one actually LIVES in Bahrain.
If you find the rules of the game too hard to follow, another weeze is to paint the garden fence and watch it dry - fascinating!!!
The only consolation I found was in correctly forecasting a Ferrari one, two on air. Mind you I did say Massa , Alonso.
Kind regards,
Bob.

Re: F1 practice
Rob there is 10x more excitement in any Club race than in the whole of that procession.
You might be right on the spectators - the entry fee much like the waste of cash at Silverstone is most likely HUGE. The locals probably can't afford to attend, they have to feed themselves. Just the top 1% of the Super Rich and there mates will be there.
Never been to an F1 race and never want to (mind Spa would be the only exception).
Sorry to sound negative - mind I'd like a go in one of these Toys

Re: F1 practice
Jon you need to see just one f1 race . the rate that the cars accelerate , deccelerate and change direction is just mind blowing, Like a lot of drivers i always assumed i could jump in an f1 car and give it a good outing but having witnessed it all in the flesh sadley i think not. Boring it may be sometimes and nowhere near as exciting as MotoGP but it is still an incredible feat of technical and physical endurance .Jon Ellison wrote: Never been to an F1 race and never want to (mind Spa would be the only exception).

Re: F1 practice
Maybe I'll get to SPA for one, one day - though doubt it - to busy and can't stand crowds. As never likely to sit in an F1 car in Anger I'll assume I can drive as well as some of themJERRY KNIGHT wrote:Jon you need to see just one f1 race . the rate that the cars accelerate , deccelerate and change direction is just mind blowing, Like a lot of drivers i always assumed i could jump in an f1 car and give it a good outing but having witnessed it all in the flesh sadley i think not. Forget Spa then Jon, Bahrain or Turkey are the places for you, unless you tend to get depressed on your own!!Jon Ellison wrote: can't stand crowds.
With regards to Club racing, a lot of that can be quite dull, but it is usually inexpensive to watch and you don't need a passport, and you can actually see he drivers in the flesh, AND talk to them. Wow!
Jerry,
You are far to modest. I have seen you in your MG, and have no doubt that you could do as well as Karun Chandhok any day.

If I had spent £40,000,000 on preparing a car for a race and it was not ready in time, I'd buy a Morgan, and stick to MSCC events.
I notice that even the teams are saying that the race was boring and something must be done to spice up the spectacle! Why then do they all spend fortunes trying to get round regulations designed to increase overtaking??

You could have a bloody nice morgan for £40,000,000 if you find yourself with that sort of cash burning a hole in your pocket I'll let you have mine for £20,000,000Bob Bull wrote:Jim,
