Jen finishes The Great North Swim!

Post by TonyLees »

Ok so it's not "on track" and it wasn't really a race but "mother of five" Jen completed the Great North Swim last Sunday.
She ended up in the top third for her age and gender out of a total of 6000 swimmers!
Many mog drivers sponsored her (the ones I collared. If anyone else want to donate please feel free to) ;-) and here is her report:

Hi Everyone
Windermere was at its best on Sunday morning, bright sunshine, not a breath of wind and a very balmy 17C. 3000 swimmers went into the water on sunday in batches of about 200. We were all aiming to swim the 1 mile course as fast as we could, some of course faster than others, the Olympic swimmers were completing the course in about 16 mins, Annie and I were very pleased with our 42 and 43 minutes respectively and had a wonderful time. Thank you very much to all of you sponsored me, I will have collected about £700 for my charity DELTA which works with Deaf children. So once again Thank You and have a lovely last race at Snetterton. If any of you want to join me next year take a look at the website for Great North Swim to get an idea of the event.
Love and best wishes Jen

Well done. I've seen those same goggles being worn in the Viper.

There's a Great South Swim next week near Ipswch (but I never got my entry in) and I look forward to the biathlon (swim and race) at Mallory.

Will swimming now take over cycling on the discussion group. I recently met a chap who says he never wears a wetsuit - as they weren't allowed when he swum the English Channel.

Tony
Please pass my congratulations along.
There was a similar event in the south called the Great London Swim , which took place in the Royal Victoria Docks.
My club provided the kayak safety cover for the swimmers. The format was a little different with 7 "waves" of about 200 to 400 swimmers each after the elite men and elite women had completed their swims.
I think we only "rescued" about 7 people in total all day , so we were able to enjoy the day out on the water.
BTW it was much warmer in the south, air temp of 26 and water temp of 22 .
Regards
