To Our Dear Departed Brothers (and Sisters)

Post by Bob Bull »

While most of us will be congregating at Silverstone for a feast of high speed entertainment, let us not forget those who can not be present.

I refer, of course to those poor benighted folk who choose to spend their weekend blasting round Snetterton in French economy cars! To whit the intrepid quartet who will be conducting 'Wild Thing' in the 2CV Twenty Four Hour Race.

May they first finish, with the same engine they start with, and come home with some silverware.

Bon Chance Mes Amis.

Mon Cher Bob, vous etes trop gentil. Tous disons merci beaucoup.

We will do our best on both counts and will no doubt regale you all with tales of derring do.

If you cannot wait until then you can listen to the race live as it happens as the race commentary will be broadcast on the web. http://www.2cvracing.org.uk/24hrlive

There is also a Twitter link, under 2CV Racing.

It should start around 5pm, with the race scheduled to start at 5.30pm.

I am told that listeners can also email the commentary team at: 24@2cvracing.org.uk

So we won't have to rely on just Jack for the twittering!

Your posting does sound a bit like an obituary Bob.............

Everything is relative mon ami! 70 mph in a 2CV is as exciting as 120 mph in a Plus 8!

Mary et al,
You choose to desert the Morgan fraternity in favour of some entente cordiale. So be it, however, to justify your absence nothing but a dominant win will suffice.
We all look forward to pictures in the forum of the garlanded drivers clutching the trophy amid a shower of French champagne.

Next week on Top of the Pops, 'Mary and The Wild Things' in concert.

Silverstone Bob.

Looking at results they seemed to generally be around 20th place through most of the race, and finished 18th. Interesting that their best lap was on Lap 386 – obviously takes time to learn the circuit.

Finished 25 seconds ahead of the 19th placed team.

Beaten by 2 laps by the 17th placed team ‘Team Fluffy Dice’ which personally I think deserves a couple of laps for such a nice name.

I see that Aubrey Brocklebank, ex SLR owner, finished in 8th place.

The weather must have been good – although perhaps a bit misty in the night and early morning ? So with the ‘deck chair’ seats and the sunroof rolled back it must have been quite a pleasant drive in the sunshine ?

Perhaps one of the participants can add a bit more info

For a bit misty read no racing from 3.30 am to 8.55am due to visibility down to 50 yds

Gets a bit chilly holding a pit board when there's nothing going past!

Congrats to all the team for:
1, Quality driving (especially getting past the Badgeroos, Jack)
2, Masterly mechanics (engine change in around 15 mins - can't do than on a +4)
3, Great Food (well done girls) - don;t need to eat for a week
4, Organisation - team manager Andy
5, Everything! - Great atmosphere - just like the old days

PS - don't mention the fire extinguisher

regards

Let's just say that it is unlikely that Jack's underpants will ever catch fire after the exciting moment involving a fire extinguisher during one of his stints.....

Special thanks due to James Paterson for robbing the fire extinguisher from his car (returning from BDC) which enabled us to continue racing.
