Has anyone ever tried to hire a track or similar venue where we could test our cars? Might it be an idea for us to do so?
For instance, actually time the difference between windscreen on or off,
test cornering with different tyre pressures, etcetera.
Problem with sprint days, you only get one or two chances, and as each track is different, it is a long and sometimes steep learning curve.

Yep, we have a track day at Mallory, but in a 15 minute slot, there's not much time to pit,make changes and evaluate.

There are plenty of track days where you can just book and drive round the track – all day if it is an ‘open pit lane’. But strictly (and I think this may be legal insurance requirement) you are not supposed to use timing devices. However as these get more sophisticated (I believe it can be done with a GPS system that doesn’t need an electronic beam) it must be impossible to police.

If you want to use a track on a test day (timing allowed) then you need a race license.

I haven’t heard that hill climb or sprint venues have test days but perhaps they do.

I suspect that it would be prohibitive costwise.

But most circuits have test days (cf track days) when timings can be legally made. Usually in half hour sessions then the only problem will be traffic. Snett usually not too bad on price, Mallory have morning sessions every wed for 80, Donington exhorbitant.

Hiring of a race circuit by us is a great idea for a MOG only testing day but could be prohibitevely expensive. Typical exclusive circuit hire charges are £5-15,000 per day. Maybe one could talk to Tony Oliver about the MSCC research and experience of running an exclusive Morgan track day.

Phoned Snett - £6900 + Vat for an exclusive test day - max of 32 cars on track at a time. So £250 per car if 32 of us.

Would this require a (race) comp license ?
