Good spot Kevin. The heat over chassis and registration numbers last erupted in 2011 and has smouldered unquenchable ever since. Not just for Morgan but for other marques too. For some of us the division, the sniping and uncertainty generated however unwarranted can add to the interest and the principles involved.
regards
ps
the car sounds earthy and you could almost smell the burning Castrol R.
However, I presume the early bids lack an additional zero?
Please, no mention of trigger"s broom.

For me its all about principles and getting to the truth.
However the truth may hurt and there is money involved!

And what a fascinating discussion it is. 84 comments with a day to go before the sale ends.

Ostensibly the DVLA is showing this registration as still in the Uk with no export record.
I am aware of the backlog at DLVA (those wonderful folks still working from home ?) but this car has been in the USA for some time with export /customs documentation and was auctioned in 2011 at Iconic in the UK as lot 158 sold £120k with the car based in Cincinnati.
The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Not really surprised to see JHX didn't sell...

Although a high bid of $87,500 / c. £70,000 was a bit light for any late 50's /60's Plus 4 race car with FIA papers, Mass engine, Billy box and historic race prep.

However despite the lovely history file that comes with the car which I have had the pleasure of seeing (as well as the car when it returned to the UK with its silver and black high line body to be rebodied as a low line car) I suspect that same history makes the car 'toxic' to many would be purchasers...

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks for the 'heads up' Kevin. And Happy New Year!

The price now in dollars is what I am led to believe was the price paid in pounds sterling when sold post auction by Silverstone Auctions...

Cheers,

Mark
