This is continued from the Goodwood thread;

Senna holds the record for the greatest number of flag-to-flag victories with 19 wins. Who sits in second place?

What links Monza 1955 with Brasil 1994?

Now I wish I had stuck to setting you the questions Bob!
I think I have worked out the first answer - jointly Jim Clark and Sebastian Vettel... but I cannot think of any link between the two races. Hope someone else can come up trumps as I am intrigued...

Quite right on the first one Simon, the second should not be too difficult even though the question sounds so. The significant thing is the gap in between, something is missing.

Probably not much help so study the results.

Simon the fact is that I can find no connection between the two races, in other words a complete 'Gilhooley' on my part. So to make it easy try Monza 1955 with Bahrain 2010!

Apologies for causing overheating, put it down to brake fade.

Dear Bob
I think you do yourself a disservice!
I believe the answer to both options is Mercedes...
Monza 1955 was a Fangio win for the Mercedes factory team (with a Mercedes engine obviously), their last GP race in that era. Brazil 1994 was the first time Sauber ran as a factory-backed Mercedes team with Mercedes engines (Ilmor in 1993). So what is missing between the two races is Mercedes factory engines.
And if you change the second race to being Bahrain 2010 then that as the first GP race by a factory Mercedes team since Monza 1955.
So whether engine or team, the answer is the three pointed star... :)
Hope I'm right! [-o<

As always Simon you display a detailed knowledge of he subject under discussion, and your observation that Mercedes engines re-appeared in 1993 is what lead to my initial blunder. I was referring, of course, to the participation of a Mercedes Benz works team in GP racing.

I shall have to delve deeper to give you something to get your teeth in to.

Congratulations,

Bob Your quizzical quizmaster.

Thank you for your kind words!
Please don't delve too deep - as I am trying to finish off our Chelsea Flower Show design!
But your brain teasers are a pleasant distraction... =D>
Best wishes
Simon

What was significant about Jody Schecter winning the 1977 Monaco GP In a Wolf?

Similarly what did Heikki Kovalainen's win in Hungary 2008 mark?

Merely statistics!

Century celebrations both... =D>
Monaco 1977 was the Cosworth DFV's 100th GP victory... and Kovalainen's win in Hungary 2008 made hiom the 100th different driver to win a GP...
Being a Northampton lad and going to school with Roger Duckworth (Keith's son) the first part of your question was particularly easy for me! I think I am right in saying that each employee at the Cosworth factory received a scale model of the DFV in celebration... :)
