This is aimed mainly at my good friend, and fellow 'Goon Show' fan, Mary Lindsay.
Mary,
With the Panto season at an end (alledgedly) I thought you and I might have a bit of fun together, (que ribald replies from the less gifted) and recreate the Goon Show cast in time for the Bentley Drivers Club in August.
My 'challenge' to you is to cast, from the ranks of BHP members the following characters;
Hairy Seagoon
Eccles
Bluebottle
Major Bloodknock
Minnie Bannister
Professor Crumb
Moriarty
Grytpipe-Thynne
I am sure you will recall other characters from the series and I look forward to your suggestions.
Kindest posible regards,
Uncle Bob.
Do you remeber the 'Dreaded Balder of Bexhill'?

Crikey Bob, if I tried to suggest a cast of characters I could become even more unpopular. I suppose one good thing is that many of them simply won't know what we are talking about...

Oddly, I don't remember him although I could probably suggest a player for the part...

Obviously that is not a problem I have, so I make my first suggestion.
Neddy Seagoon?

Don't panic Catherine you will not figure in my efforts

No problem Bob. Have just been catching up on the panto (far too clever for the likes of me) and am anyway on a different planet having just returned from the azure seas and far off golden beaches you previously mentioned. Jet lag and the temperature difference is hard to bear so am in no fit state to complain about anything!

Mary,
How am I doing so far?

Mary, How am I doing so far?
Very well indeed Bob.
I submit a hazy and rather long shot of Count Moriarty (left) and Hercules Grytpype-Thynne (right), plotting the downfall of some unfortunate in the other side of the paddock.

...and of Major Dennis Bloodnok

Well done Mary, we all almost complete.
I can't say I am familiar with your appointees, but I know I can rely on your judgement in such matters, I am certain they will be perfect.
Now comes the task of writing a suitable script and coaching those lucky few chosen to fill the roles to which they have been appointed.
Of course the problem of casting Minnie Bannister remains and I expect you have seen elsewhere the reluctance of one possible candidate to play her part.
I am afraid that it will have to be one of the men in drag, and I am trawling my photo gallery for a likely specimen. I did consider one particular person as being ideal for the part, but I suspect he would close the whole site down if I put his name forward.
We need a scrawny, grey haired, stooped type with a squeaky voice. Any suggestions? I feel that we can rule out Jack and Barry as unsuitable right from the start.

I recall Prince Charles is a fan of the Goons – so perhaps he could be persuaded to go Morgan racing and give a bit more input to this discussion.
I also believe fans of Arsenal FC are known as Gooners – but I think that is a derivative of The Gunners.
Leigh
PS Reluctant to post any comment in case it reminds Bob / Mary of my existence and I get nominated for some sort of Goony part. But if so – am happy to become Peter Sellers (provided I get Britt Eckland and his Mini – car that is) but please not Harry Secombe.

Sorry Leigh the only part left is for Minnie Bannister and we have allocated it to you. She is described as:
a spinster, a sexy senior citizen who plays the saxophone and regularly breaks out in song or dance. She lives in sin with Henry Crun, but whenever Major Bloodnok comes on the scene it's made clear that they were lovers in the past.
I think the make-up and special effects department should be able to do something with you....
