A Cautionary Tale

For those who own and race cars with Salisbury axles, I advise you to have your half shafts regularly checked for wear as they have a weak point and are prone to break. This means that the whole wheel comes off (usually on a hard corner) and has catastrophic results as I discovered some years ago at Snetterton and others including Jack and Billy Bellinger have since.

JEK at Snetterton after a series of inversions and barrel rolls at Coram following half-shaft failure on the near side rear.

A recently removed half-shaft from JEK with crack test results in red - the cracks are developing well.

Both recently removed halfshafts showing signs of wear and movement at the top end of the key way alongside the end of the one which broke causing the accident.
