Some nice contributions but we can do better;
Noah Chap went to Newmarket to see his friend Ray Source, but Ray and his mate Jim Khana had gone to see a German Vet, Horst Fettler with a view to nobble Moss Boxer favourite for the 3.30,.The plan was to defraud the local Bookmaker Mark Iskard, Mark, however, blissfully unaware of the plot was busy with two nubile young ladies who owed him money, Bet Allot and Wyn Rarely. The girls were paying their dues in a steamy love trist with the Bookmaker. Meanwhile Jock E Shorts, was looking for his boss G G Traynor, who himself was busily engaged in a passionate affair with a Stablegirl, Edna Nosebagge but unknown to GG, Edna was two timing him with Ed Stableand, Moss Boxers groom.
Noah, frustrated at not finding his friend Ray at home enlisted the aid of a Welsh nere'do'well, Evan Elpus, to track down Ray Source, however, Evan was terminally idle and so employed Percy Veerance, a private eye to do the leg work for him.
Moss Boxer's owner, Australian millionaire, Bill Abong, had got wind of the plot to nobble his horse and had hired Ed Case and Arf Nelson to guard his cherished nag, and to keep an eye on the horse at the same time!
Inspector Mike Ace, learning of the dubious goings on decided to nip the plot in the bud .......................

I have rarely seen any theme on this site that you cannot twist or morph into something 'completely different'.
Come on Mrs. Lindsay, where is that fabled imagination of yours?
'Inspector Mike Ace, a very experienced detective, remembered a similar case involving racing cars, some sort of Challenge series if he recalled events correctly. A little research by a Clark might unearth the details, a notorious character, Max Arrow was involved that was for sure, and wasn't that infamous dominatrix, S Exgurl behind it all?
A delve into the archives might well lead to solving the case.
Back in Newmarket, Horst Fettler, called a colleague in Hertfordshire, Phil Syringe for advice on how to nobble horses, Phil's partner Sharlie Sheshouldknow answered the phone. "Nobble horses? I'm afaid Phil only knows how to break horses." she told the German.
Failing to make contact with Ray Sources, Noah Chap went home a sadder but wiser man, and immediately started a new ..........................!
