The Birkett 2012
Re: The Birkett 2012
A great event, and lot's of good company to enjoy - and then there were the Morgan types.
All well and good for the drivers lounging around the garage scoffing pork pies, or drivng round the track with the heater on full blast, some of us were obliged to stand on windy corners attempting to record for posterity the antics of the contestants, ask Charles Neal, or young Will Plant!
Some talk of the 'commentators curse' that statement that triggers instant disaster for the subject, however, I recall a certain team manger telling me; "Everything is going according to plan."
If broken gearboxes and petrol shortage's are in the plan, one wonders what exactly the team set out to achieve.
But never mind the action on track - watch out for the report on the 'Great Paella Challenge' an illustrated extravaganza from the acclaimed jounalist -

Hi
What a great day of friendly and competitive rivalry if a tad cold. Well done to both teams but particularly to Morgans for Fun who finished 6th and first in class. Hope the trophies don't overwhelm the mantel shelf! Well done everyone.
Tony

Re: The Birkett 2012
Jerry, Bob, Tony,
Thanks for posting - modesty prevents me of course - but it was terrific to see all the Morgan folk together for a bit of an end-of-season 'bash'.
Whilst t'other Andy had his own problems to manage, my Thanks to Tony Oliver, his quick decisive thinking saved me from embarassment when things went a bit awry
Comisserations too to Phil Goddard when his car objected to the task but I think everybody else got away cleanly on the day - and two of the Morgans For Fun team drove their race cars home
It is always a pleasure to see Morgan people out supporting but special mention to Machiel Kalf and his friend Ton who came over from Holland at Andy G's invitation - Machiel is a watchmaker of the old fashioned kind and his genuine period mechanical timing equipment (complete in custom leather box) is just gorgeous, hopefully Bob managed to get a shot of it in action.
Have Fun
Andy

Wasn't it fun? And very exciting to be watching!
Luckily weather stayed dry on drive home.
Any volunteers for even colder Pomeroy in February?!
Last year the Frazer Nashes attempted a mass win, which didn't go to plan, but how many Morgans will be out in 2013?
(At least one red 4/4! )
John

Fabulous day, thanks to all helpers and supporters and most of all, for being asked to be part of a winning team!

Re: The Birkett 2012
bob ... You will have to come out with me
Avoiding an oil line on the track that the marshals did not see !!
small bits of debris from the CaterRAMS on the race line !!
bright sunlight making it hard to see clipping points !!
The Flash from a Dogy Photograper blinded me for a split second !!
overcooked it !!
excuses in that order

I am enormously mpressed, you are a true professional!
I only caught you 'off piste' three times, but you had six excuses prepared!!!
Maybe I have misjudged you all these years.
Now how about you making some complimentaty remarks about my ace photography, I could even send you a copy of the beautifully 'panned' snap with the blurred background.
Bob.

Re: The Birkett 2012
I have now downloaded a lot of pictures from the event on Morgan Skydrive, they are not all of the highest standard, but each one might have some meaning for the driver. I expect paeans of praise to pour forth, but just in case I still have a number of 'candid' shots I can deploy to force the issue if neccessary. You have been warned.
Well done to all the contestants, and to the kitchen staff.
